Beauty Wound

It was once said that "Beauty is Pain." I never really understood what that meant until this past week. On Wednesday I had to take my brother to the dentist and while I was waiting for him the waxing salon next store was calling my name. Every once in a while I get my eyebrows waxed because it makes them easier to shape and tweeze. Seeing I had some time on my hands I went in and got them waxed. Everything felt fine (as fine as waxing can go) and I paid the nice lady and left. For those of you who have never gotten your eyebrows waxed it's not too painful but the area may be red and tender for a few hours after.  After I got home the area below my eyebrow was abnormally stinging so I looked in the mirror and beheld... (first picture)!

I thought that maybe the wax had either burned me or it had actually ripped off some of my skin. I texted my best-friend who had a sister that's an Aesthetician and said the wax probably burned my skin and to pul aloe on it. I immediately went outside to our aloe vera plant (thank you dad) and applied the area with the horribly smelling goopey stuff (see picture two). By the end of the night it looked like picture three. I did go back to the salon the day after it happened and the two ladies were not helpful at all. They said it would heal and it looked fine. So for the next few days I continually applied Neosporin and Vitamin E to my beauty wound. Last night the whole red stuff peeled off and my eyelids look brand new and there was no scar!  :) It is safe to say I will NEVER get an eyebrow wax again in my life...

A little side note: The same day this all happened my prince charming of a man brought me a little surprise! There was this pair or Ray-Ban sunglasses that I really loved but couldn't bring myself to purchase them. Danny said he ordered them for me a few days before and they came at obviously the perfect time. Lets just say I didn't take them off for the next three days!

P.S. This is a cool blog about redefining beauty! I found it helpful while thinking about why women torture themselves to look a certain way.

Summer Happenings

I cannot believe I have been home for summer for almost two months now! There were definitely perks and downsides to coming home earlier than all my friends. A few of the perks include: catching up on all my reading, working on a cookbook, managing our rental house and... (drum roll) QUILTING.  My mother is an amazing quilter and I have tried over and over to fall in love with the hobby, but can't quite seem to find the joy in it. I can't tell you how many times I've had to pick out a seam or how I ran out of thread with only a little left to sew. Regardless of all the little (troublesome) tasks involved with sewing, the final product, I have to say, is priceless!

I actually started this quilt last year before I went off to college for Danny's Mom, but never had the time to finish it. So with all this newfound time I decided to get it done and was able to give it to her for her birthday this week. Happy Birthday Mrs. Vivier!!

After making four quilts over the years, this being my fourth, I still have not decided if it is something I will continue to do in the future! I do know I will cherish all the quilts my own mother has made for me and am always grateful for her patience in helping me figure out this quilting business.
